アーティスト Jeffrey Jeff Wall の名前と “JEFFのWALL（壁）” をかけて始まるプロジェクト「JEFF WALL」。
JEFF WALLは、白い壁と一本の釘を象徴とし、
アーティスト 加藤将司 さんのキュレーションのもと、選ばれた作品を一点ずつ、一定期間展示していきます。
身近なヘアサロンという空間で作品をリアルにご覧いただき、その作品がふとした会話のきっかけになり、
そこから自然と何かへとつながっていくことを願っています。
サロンは、人と人とのあいだに立ち、新たな出会いや対話をつなぐ場所でありたいと考えています。
初回展示は 2月23日より、加藤将司さんの作品からスタート いたします。

“JEFF WALL” is a project named after artist Jeffrey Jeff Wall, combining the name with “JEFF’s WALL.”
JEFF WALL is symbolized by a white wall and a single nail.
Curated by artist Masashi Kato, selected works will be exhibited one at a time for a set period of time.
We hope that by viewing the works in the familiar space of a hair salon, visitors will be able to spark casual conversations,
leading to natural connections.
We believe that salons should be places that connect people, fostering new encounters and dialogue.
The first exhibition will begin on February 23rd, featuring works by Masashi Kato.
We hope that this will be an enjoyable addition to your visit.
キュレーターのご挨拶
勝手ながら、JEFFとの出会いからずっと、私が敬愛するJeff Wallを連想していました。
今回、新しいプロジェクトの構想とともに、そのつながりに想いを馳せたところ、Jeff Wallの作品にある技巧性と瞬間性が、
梅沢さんのクリエーションと結びつきました。
⸺ 澄んだ感性、経験に裏打ちされた所作、よく研がれた刃先で髪は整えられ、創られ、輝く ⸺
その瞬間が生まれる場所に相応しい余白が生まれるよう、梅沢さんと一緒に間合いを吟味して、
釘を一本打たせてもらいました。
壁の平面上では小さな一つの「点」ですが、JEFF WALLではアートが掛けられ、
さまざまな想いと現象を架ける釘となります。
これからの展開、どうぞ末長くご高覧ください。

物質界と社会に立ち現る主体性に関わるテーマで世界現象を観察しながら、コンセプト、ビジョン、素材、プロセスを織り込んだ美術作品をつくる。コンテンポラリー・アーティストの視座でキュレーション、レジデンシー・プログラム、デザイン・プロジェクトも行う。
2005年よりヘルシンキ在住。
国立現代美術館キアズマで2月27日に開催する展覧会「A Dream in Four Colours」に絵画作品が参加。

Curator’s Message
Ever since my first encounter with JEFF, I’ve been reminded of my beloved Jeff Wall.
As I considered this connection while conceiving my new project, the skill and immediacy of Jeff Wall’s work
connected with Umezawa’s creations.
— Hair is styled, created, and shining with a clear sensibility, a gesture backed by experience, and a well-honed blade. —
To create the appropriate space for this moment, I carefully considered the spacing with Umezawa,
and hammered in a nail.
On the flat surface of the wall, it may appear as a small “dot,” but on the JEFF WALL, art is hung,
and it becomes a nail upon which various thoughts and phenomena are attached.

Shoji Kato
Kato Shoji creates artworks that weave together concept, vision, materials, and process while observing global phenomena with themes related to the subjectivity that emerges in the material world and society. He also curates, conducts residency programs, and designs projects from a contemporary artist’s perspective.
He has lived in Helsinki since 2005.
His paintings will be featured in the exhibition “A Dream in Four Colours,” opening on February 27th at Kiasma, the National Museum of Contemporary Art.
